Latest Fashion Inspiration: Lennon Stella

Peony Lin

Lennon and Maisy Stella, as some of you may know, are incredibly talented sisters in the entertainment world, and their voices have been known to "wow" the crowd. Named after the man John Lennon himself, the eldest sister, Lennon, has a lead role in the CMT show, "Nashville". She already has the name, and she for sure has the old school style.

Lennon's rocker chic leather look is an epic blast from the past. The chunky black booties were crowd-pleasing last year, as they will continue to be. This individualized grunge appeal has seemingly been becoming more desired, especially to the youth. To match the booties, Lennon wears a black cropped leather jacket with silver metal hardware. She also accessorizes with a mini leather black backpack as an everyday purse, as they are very effortless and minimal.

Of course, I couldn't leave out Lennon's recent fabulous pink do. Colored hair has been on the rise lately, providing self expression. Also, why not? It's always fun to put a little pep in your step with a new hair color.

Lennon's extraordinary style has truly made an impact on my personal fashion, as I try to expand horizons and choose bolder patterns.

I cannot seam to bring up the graphic tee trend enough; they're everywhere! My love for a short sleeve baseball tee is infinite, and it's even better with a little design on the front or back. Specifically, Lennon wears a band top with a slight slit down the front collar for a little skin. If you're down to show even more skin or are looking to wear something high wasted, knot your top at the front!

The oh-so-popular suede is returning for this upcoming season. The mini skirts were outstandingly adored last fall, and will continue to set the tone for this upcoming fall. Lennon takes it up a notch and wears suede bellbottoms - a classic hippy piece.

In this ensemble, Lennon is dolled up in a patchwork kimono with vivid colors. Elongated kimonos or cardigans are ideal for dressing up any outfit. They provide that extra layer while elongating the body. You can wear these at any time of the year, especially in the transition to fall. As Lennon displays, they go perfect with a pair of shorts and booties!

At a separate occasion, Lennon wears a pair of patchwork pants in a similar pattern. It's always a good idea to invest in a few simple black crop tops to wear with your pants that are on the wilder side, such as Lennon's. She shades her eyes with a pair of fashionable round sunglasses.

Fall Lookbook Straight from the Runway

Peony Lin

Although the official summer season has only just begun, fall fashion is just around the corner. Major fashion designers have already set the trends for this upcoming season, and their designs are filled with lace, sheer, ruffles, and dark colors.

Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini's Fall RTW is clean and sophisticated. Designer Serafini uses a stunning mixture of black and white with a slight pop of color in contrast, while also using sheer materials and fitted waistlines to emphasize the form of the body.

The Alexander McQueen runway show had more of a worldly influence. The vivid red, detailed patterns and embroidery, and elements of nature all derive almost from a classic culture of Spain. The raw asymmetrical hem on some of the pieces also suggest travels. The designers also balanced out the red with the highly-admired runway color of black.

Balenciaga provided an outstanding collection of both modern colors and cuts that seemed career-oriented and a tad preppy. Granted, they did it well and avant-garde. Button up's are always a hit for the fall, as you can layer them or just rock them plain. The plaid is also a go-to and never fails to show up on the runway somewhere.

As my personal favorite collection, Dries Van Noten recreated the retro vibes for a modernistic appeal. The designer works to bring the "flower power" print back. You know, the one that reminds us all of the Brady Bunch? How can you not love it! A wide variety of other patterns were also implemented into the collection. To tone it down, the bright orange and blue floral is seperated by clean cut outfits of white and greys.

The Vintage Woman

Peony Lin

In our modern society, the acts of reuse and conservation have been extremely significant. This includes more than just out water bottles, as such concepts transfer into the fashion world. People everywhere are eyeing thrift shop finds to fit into their wardrobe, from clothing to jewelry. Not a fan of pre-owned clothing? Dress up your personal look with some vintage accessories. They can be from your local antique shop or even your mom's older items from the 80's and 90's. There is a large amount of today's youth taking it back and modeling old-school trends such as these.

Along with the wicker bag, another item making its huge comeback is the twill baker boy hat. These come in a variety of colors, but fashion enthusiasts everywhere have been fairly fond of the black caps. They go well with a pair of your favorite trousers and loafers, and they have a huge bonus. Use them to cover up that early morning bed head! Toss up that hair in a low bun or a couple of braids for a hot and humid day.

The 1970's was the era of Miss Jane Birkin, who is a singer and very well known for her romance with Serge Gainsbourg. As one of my personal favorites, Birkin has an outstanding and lavish style that is timeless. In this outfit, the piece that stands out the most is her neck scarf, which is 200% back for the year of 2017. Bandanas and thin scarves are a superior way to accent an ensemble. Wrap them around the neck, or even tie them into an updo or braid. In addition, you can dress up any purse or bag by simple tying a tasteful bandana around the handle. Lately, my obsession is the ideal red bandana. I use it to add a dash of color to any neautral outfit, just as young Kate Moss does below.

Vertical striped denim has been a major go-to. We've seen the simpler black and white stripe before, but this new/old trend is taking the vintage elevator to a whole other level that we love. As I've previously stated, the vertical stripes work to make absolutely anyone appear taller, and the red stripes in these specific bottoms add a bit of creativity. Top it off with a brown leather belt, and you're good as old!

Wicker baskets are a classic, but lately, designers and stylists have been turning them into chic handbags for daily use. These are marvelous for summer for a whimsical touch at a botanical garden or market. They match just about any outfit that you have planned, so there's no worries. This bag specifically has a stylish gold chain as a crossbody strap and a large detailed clasp for both decor and functionality. Get in touch with your inner Dorothy, and get yourself one!

Believe it or not, the plain button up top never fails to impress me. They're very flattering to the figure, and the collar helps to frame the face. In specific, Peter Pan collars, such as the one above, are very pleasing. They can also be used to layer under items, especially for colder seasons. Something else about this look that I wish to point out is the sock and shoe combination - another vintage trend. High socks have been especially popular, mainly when it comes to loafers and chelsea boots!

As the largest vintage trend of the past couple of years, Levi's denim has permanently made it's comeback, ladies and gents. "Mom jeans" are no longer just for moms, but for the New York City art students, off-duty models, and pretty much anyone who cherishes the vintage high waist style. The best thing about them? They're crazy easy to find! Check out your mom or aunt's old items; they're bound to have a pair to snag!
